Renovations & Extensions

How we approach it

The best renovation doesn't always mean starting again. Sometimes it's about seeing what is already there differently.

We design and build renovations and extensions that improve the way your home works while respecting what made you love it in the first place.

From a carefully considered extension to a complete transformation, we work with the existing structure, architecture and character of your home to create something that feels like it has always belonged there.

With experience in working within existing homes, we understand that renovations require careful planning, attention to detail and an ability to adapt when things aren't quite as they appeared on the plans.

  1. Measured survey of the existing home

  2. Concept drawings for the addition or renovation

  3. Structural assessment for second storeys

  4. Fixed-price proposal from the drawings

  5. Staged construction so you can stay in the home where possible

  6. Handover and defects period

Who it suits

Renovate or rebuild. That is the question.

Sometimes the best way to create the home you want is to work with what you have.

The decision isn't always straightforward. It depends on your existing home, what you want to keep, what you want to change and, importantly, what makes financial sense.

At Sutton Building, we can help you explore all options before you commit. We'll look at what can be retained, what needs to change and what's possible within your budget, then give you a clear path forward.

Why we're different

Most builders quote first and design later. We think that's backwards.

Renovating an existing home is very different from building a new one. You're working with an existing structure, existing levels and existing finishes, and what you can't see can be just as important as what you can.

That's why getting the details right before construction begins is critical.

An extension needs to work seamlessly with the original home. Roof lines, floor levels, windows, structure, waterproofing, services and finishes all need to come together. Get one detail wrong and it can affect everything that follows, adding cost, complexity and compromises along the way.

It takes experience to see those challenges before they become problems. At Sutton Building, we understand how to connect new construction to old, and where the details need particular attention. We take the time to develop the right approach and resolve the important details before we build.

Because a successful renovation isn't simply about adding more space. It's about making the new feel like it was always meant to be there.
